That’s it folks. Stage Five of Ice Ultra 2022 Race #1 is over. Tonight we celebrate. The runners, the race team, the Sami, and the medics will eat a celebratory meal and relive the event over a few very well earned beers.
The winner of Ice Ultra 2022 Race #1 is Julen Urdaibai. This basque athlete did so well in our Desert Ultra but has excelled in the snow. Humble, friendly and extremely talented. This teacher isn’t outwardly competitive and challenges himself to do no more than to push himself to his own limits. he got stronger with each day of the race.
The winning woman was Sheila Senai. Similarly humble about her abilities, Sheila was organised, determined, capable and endlessly consistent. She adds an Ice Ultra win to her many ultra-running achievements and we look forward to seeing her again in the Jungle in June.
